Escape from a mysterious robot factory in this 3D puzzle platformer. Using the game mechanic of object permanence, items in the world will appear and disappear depending on where you look. Only mastery of this ability will allow you to overcome obstacles and find the exit.

Oculus Escape is a game prototype/demo for the Oculus Rift. I assembled a group of talented artists, designers, and programmers to develop this VR game. We developed over the course of a summer and finished a demo in preparation for Rooster Teeth Convention. We barely passed that milestone and production was muddled with many issues. The project was dropped right after showcasing our demo at Rooster Teeth Convention.

One thing I underestimated was the difficulty in having a team divided between two cities. Austin housed the main dev team, and Atlanta housed the art and design team. This makes it easy for issues to go unnoticed, and I didn’t do enough to facilitate communication between the two teams.

My biggest mistake was not doing an adequate job in screening the team members I brought on, specifically, one of the designers. He had an overbearing personality, would shut down ideas from the other designers, and would bully other team members. I failed to detect these problems until much too late.

All other personnel on the team were top notch: whether it be the artists, designers, or developers. I would gladly work with any of them again. I am truly sorry to the people that I’ve worked with for all the mistakes I have made.
